The ATI Displays application starts but says "Unknown ATI Graphics" |
The application has not been patched by Radeon Enabler. |
| |
When I select my ATI Displays application, I get a message that the file version is unknown |
Radeon Enabler can only run on original, un-patched versions of the ATI Displays application. If you are trying to use an updated version of Raden Enabler, you must first reinstall the ATI Radeon Displays package so that the original application is available for patching.
Another possibility is that you're trying to patch a newly released version of ATI Radeon Displays and Radeon Enabler hasn't yet been updated to recognize this new version.

When opening the ATI Displays control panel, I get this error: |
Ignore it. It’s caused by your OEM or onboard graphics not supporting TVOut functions. Other than the annoying error alert, it will not affect anything. |
| |
I can set 3D profiles for applications but they don’t seem to work. |
It’s likely that the ATI Monitor application is not running. This application gets added as a startup item and must be running to have the profiles take affect. If this application is not in your startup items (or you have removed it), opening the ATI Displays preference panel will restore it.
Another possibility is that you launched the ATI Displays application before patching and didn’t reboot after applying the patch. The ATI Monitor program gets launched by the ATI Displays application as a background application. In this scenario you still have the unpatched version running. Rebooting should solve this. |

With my Mobility or eMac graphics chipsets the ATI Displays application takes a long time to start. |
This is a known issue that is a side-effect of adding support for onboard chipsets. The unpatched ATI Displays application was designed specifically for graphics "cards" and does not natively know how to support onboard chipsets. Radeon Enabler works around these limitations to add support. |

With my Mobility or eMac graphics chipsets some of the fields on the "Profile" tab in ATI Displays are blank. |

The ATI Displays preference panel doesn’t launch (or launches an unpatched version). |
You might have more than one copy of the ATI Displays application on your system. The preference panel appears to be somewhat buggy and will sometimes launch the wrong application. Make sure you only have the patched version on your system.
Another tip is to remember that ATI Displays is just an application. You can always launch it manually from the finder. It's located in /Applications/Utilities/ATI Utilties |
| |
I have 2 (or more) ATI Monitor entries in my startup items. |
See the previous bullet. Once again the application is a little buggy and will sometimes add duplicate startup items if you have more than one copy of the ATI Displays application. |
| |
I messed up some step in the process. |
No problem, just start over. You can always reinstall the ATI Displays Update to return to an unpatched version. You can then run Radeon Enabler again. |
| |
ATI just released a new version of Radeon Displays and I can't patch it! |
Well, that's because Radeon Enabler hasn't been updated to work with the new version yet. While I'll try to support new versions as soon as possible, it may take several days to develop an updated patcher and thoroughly test it. |
| |
Oops! I already installed the new version. What do I do now? |
Well, you can either wait for a new version of Radeon Enabler, or reinstall the previous version of ATI Radeon Displays and re-patch with the current version of Radeon Enabler. |
| |
Radeon Enabler says it couldn't identify my ATI chipset. |
Generate and send me a support file. Under the "Support" menu -> "Generate Support File..." |
| |
Radeon Enabler says it couldn't find any ATI chipsets. |
Well, do you have ATI graphics? If so, generate and send me a support file. Under the "Support" menu -> "Generate Support File..." |
| |
How do I uninstall ATI Radeon Displays? |
Since ATI doesn't provide any unistaller, these instructions are simply provided for reference. These steps will work for patched or unpatched versions. You will need to have admin privileges (or access to "sudo") to complete some of these steps.
- Delete the ATI Utilities folder inside of Applications/Utilities. You may not be able to empty the trash until after you reboot (since the ATI Monitor application may still be running)
- Remove the ATI Monitor startup item from all users using the Accounts preference panel.
- Remove the ATIDisplaysSP.prefPane item from /Library/PreferencePanes
- Delete the ATITVOut kernel extension.
sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/ATITVOut.kext
- Reboot
